FILM-MAKING PROJECTS

Unorthodox Thoughts

A documentary series exploring taboo  topics within the UK and how different cultures approach them. We see how society is undergoing transformations as to how we approach and understand each other’s lifestyle choices. Follow the true stories of these taboo topics, why they are so controversial, and important to share.

Unorthodox Thoughts explores the topic of drugs. We start to understand how accessible drugs are within our society and how drugs are used today, through the real-life shared experiences of young people.

The Fine Comb

This short film was part of a project created by Gallery 37 to support the diverse talents of Birmingham's future creatives.

The Fine Comb is a short film adaptation of the poem 'Do Not Touch My Hair' by Esther Ogunfeitimi. The film combines spoken word poetry with horror filmmaking to emotively tackle themes of memory, cultural identity and Britain's colonial legacy, through the lens of one women's relationship with her Afro hair.

Fragment of Voices

This short film was part of a project created by Gallery 37 to support the diverse talents of Birmingham's future creatives.

Fragment of Voices was created using a combination of visuals and poetry to explore the themes of racial displacement and the societal divisions which underline everyday situations. We frame everyday interactions as an incentive to examine the subtle inequalities many demographics of society experience on a daily basis.

Unravelled

As part of an intensive programme, Screen Dance Co-Lab unified dance, film and music to create a multi layered dance film.

On a stage viewed by the spotlight, individuals liberate themselves from the shackles of control. Unravelled explores themes of escaping the spotlight and combines three original music scores, five pieces of choreography, spoken word and cinematography recorded simultaneously on site of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
